The folks behind 24 are just not giving up without a fight. The recent Jack Bauer-less attempt at a reboot - 24: Legacy - crashed and burned, however, they have a new idea for a show that may work, and Kiefer Sutherland is already a fan.

The series will be completely overhauled with a female attorney taking the lead but the idea of a 24-hour clock will still be incorporated.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said: "To take it out of the anti-terrorist format I think is really smart.

"In this specific instance, they're talking about of a female attorney who has 24 hours to bring the stay of execution to her client or he dies – that's a really fascinating idea."

Sutherland, who played Agent Jack Bauer in the hit series from 2001 to 2014, went on to say: "The next year could be about firefighters that are stuck, surrounded by a fire in the wilderness, and it's 'How do they get out of that?' There's so many opportunities for the show in that way.

"I think it's a really bold step, and I think Joel Surnow and Howard Gordon [series producers], who are working together on that, will do a fantastic job, and I'm excited to see what they come up with."

As well as starring in his latest series Designated Survivor, these days you're more likely to find Kiefer Sutherland on stage as he has released an album and is currently on tour. He even stops by these shores soon to perform in The Academy.
