Just when you thought TV couldn't get any better, FX goes and pulls what must be one of the biggest casting coups of all time and gets Kathy Bates to size up against Jessica Lange in Ryan Murphy's smash hit American Horror Story. TV Guide says the pair will play rivals in the upcoming third season of the rather spooky series.

Every season of AHS is self contained, with its own plot line, setting and cast of characters. Season One is set in modern day America and follows the (mis)fortunes of a family (headed up by Dylan McDermott we might add) that move into a restored mansion. Of course the place is haunted by its former inhabitants, sure why wouldn't it be lads? Season Two takes things to the next level and heads off to an asylum. The year is 1964 and the hospital is chock a block with criminally insane patients, and questionably sane doctors and nuns.

Sounds like the perfect series for Ms Misery Bates. We'll never ever forget her chilling performance in the big screen adaptation of the Stephen King classic. We just can't wait to see herself and Jessica appear on screen together: Talk about your winning combinations FX. Bravo.

To date, Lange's picked up quite a few awards for her performance in American Horror Story, including two Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for her work on Season 2. You can see the veteran star of stage and screen in action in this hilarious clip from the latest series....

Don't be thinking this is Glee meets The Exorcist now though! Any die hard fans of the show will tell you this scene was definitely a once off!

We're still not sure what exactly we can expect from Season 3, but we have heard that there could be some manner of Romeo and Juliet storyline running through it. We'll just have to wait and see what happens!
