Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers will headline the new NBC series, Dracula.

According to Deadline.com, it will be set in the 1890s and has been described as "Dangerous Liaisons meets The Tudors" - Myers of course starred in The Tudors for cable network, Showtime. Sky Living are part financing the series, and it's been picked up for an ten episode order after forgoing the pilot order process most TV shows have to go through before being picked up. That means NBC liked the script enough to greenlight a series, but can't complain if the resulting show is shite - they must broadcast ten episodes.

Myers was going to be a movie star for a while. JJ Abrams cast him in a very high profile role in Mission Impossible: 3, but it just never happened for the Cork native. This is a smart move for him, as he can dine out of his suaveness - whilst, like, biting people.
