Viewers are only one episode in, and they've already become fully invested in this 'Game of Thrones' prequel series.

Winter is coming... but before all of that, we've got a glorious reign of dragons and fire to see out first. Yes, in case you weren't aware, the 'House of the Dragon' series dropped its season premiere overnight and episode one has secured a place in many a cold 'GOT' fans' hearts.

Based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy world within the pages of his encyclopedic release 'Fire & Blood', the prequel series follows the happenings in Westeros during a time when the Targaryen family and their litter of dragons ruled the seven kingdoms. Martin adapted the backstory for the screen alongside Ryan Condal and 'HOTD' marks the first official spin-off series from the highly acclaimed HBO creation which finished with a whimper, and not a bang, back in 2019.

And judging from the reaction online, the people are excited.

This series closely follows the reign of King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), who must choose a worthy successor for the crown and the throne. Will he choose his reckless younger brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) or his eldest daughter Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock)? And what ramifications will this have on the seven realms?

We had the pleasure of watching the first six episodes of ten of this first season, and we think fans will be able to get on board with the franchise all over again. The tone of the series is just right, still maintaining that heavy yet playful 'GOT' feel, but at the same time with a new cast and storyline to follow, it feels like a fresh approach to a very familiar world.

Anyway, here's what viewers have been saying about the return of 'Game of Thrones' to our screens - and it's all pretty hilarious.

'House of the Dragon' episode one is now available to watch on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW. New episodes will drop weekly at 2 am every Monday morning.
