The 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out last night and there were few surprises with Game of Thrones and Veep reigning supreme as expected.
Game of Thrones took home three awards on the night for Best Drama Series, Best Writing for a Drama Series and Best Directing for a Drama Series. The latter two awards were specifically for the 'Battle of the Bastards' episode which our own Fiona Flynn considered to be the finest episode of the show to date.
Thrones' also broke the record for the most Emmy wins ever last night. It picked up it's 38th Emmy award, beating the record previously held by Fraiser.
Veep was the big winner in the comedy categories, taking home Best Comedy Series for the second year in a row as well as Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Julia Louis-Dreyfus who has now won the award a record five years in a row.
The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story was the other big success story of the night, picking up five awards. It won for Best Limited Series, Best Actor in a Limited Series for Courtney B. Vance, Best Actress in a Limited Series for Sarah Paulson and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for Sterling K. Brown. It also won the award for Best Writing for a Limited Series for the episode 'Marcia, Marcia, Marcia'
