The story about the show choir kids from McKinley High seemed as though it came straight off the Broadway stage, but now it looks as though Glee is set to come full circle, and make the big transition from the TV to the theatre.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, execs at Fox say the hit TV series, which has just begun shooting its fifth season, is due to be developed into a stage musical. "We launched a live stage business with a sold-out arena concert tour in 2011, and now a live stage musical is in the works" 20th Century Fox Television co-head Gary Newman told investors at a conference. "And two more seasons of the show were ordered by Fox. When you identify the right creator and support a big, creative vision, you get a show like Glee, which is exactly the kind of property that our studio excels at exploiting."
The news comes less than 48 hours after Glee picked up the award for Choice TV: Comedy at the Teen Choice Awards in the USA. Actress Lea Michele was names Choice TV Actress: Comedy, and tearfully dedicated her award to the late Cory Monteith.
Creator Ryan Murphy says the cast are set to film three news episodes of the show, including a tribute to Monteith, before taking an indefinite hiatus.
