Yes, it took us a moment to get our heads around this too, so we'll say it again. HBO are releasing what they are calling a rap-and-metal-themed mixtape ahead of the upcoming season. What's even stranger is this is in fact the second time this has happened. Yep, volume one was last year folks, we are kicking ourselves too.

This time round though they've got the one and only Snoop Dogg himself on board in what's called Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2. He will join the likes of Method Man who will contribute tracks alongside metal acts in a mixtape that will play on themes of ice and fire.

Fans will know Snoop from his hilarious stoner-style reviews of Game of Thrones and he is a huge fan of the show, he said in a statement; "Off the top, I love Game of Thrones - I even gave my expert analysis of this season on my GGN show. It's like the rap game, it's gangster, about family, loyalty and trying to get to the top. I had to get involved. Give the fans a little bit of how I see it."

The album will feature fifteen tracks with sample music taken from the fourth season of Game of Thrones, while each artist involved is set to represent each of the families in the series.

So eh yeah, in short, this sounds all kinds of AWESOME.

Game of Thrones season five returns to Sky Atlantic on April 13th.
