It seems like half the world has their eyes fixed on the Vatican at the moment, what with the Conclave to pick a new Pope going on and all, but sure couldn't they have solved all that in a jiffy if they'd just called the gang at the Craggy Island Parochial House?
Some very wise people got together on Facebook and started a nifty little campaign endorsing Father Dougal Maguire for Pope. To date, 17,000 people have joined their ranks, and we have to say, we're 100 per cent with them here in the office! We think Father Dougal would make a perfect Pope, and here are just five reasons why...
1. Father Dougal knows how to remain calm in a crisis
Sure lads, if there's ever a problem he'll keep the head and get it sorted in a jiffy. There's nothing you can't fix by covering your eyes and hoping someone else cleans up the mess for you. That's the kind of attitude we need in a leader, right?
2. He's completely at one with his Catholic faith
Nobody would need to school this lad in the Catechism, sure doesn't he know Christianity inside out?
3. He'd lead us not into temptation
There'd be no fear of illegitimate children or illicit affairs, sure Dougal can't even look at a woman that way!
4. Young people of Ireland, he can relate to you!
Dougal isn't afraid to get down with the kids, and even plays video games. He could reassure Fidelma Healy Eames that we don't need any microchips too. Handy thing that, Papal Infallibility.
5. Unlike some of the competition, he's DEFINITELY living in the real world
Need we say any more? He could even canonize Spider Baby if he so wished...
