A year of kitchen discos couldn't save her from elimination.

The second season of the thoroughly bizarre 'The Masked Singer' kicked off on Virgin Media One last night and has already been causing quite the controversy with its first elimination.

The first six of the anonymous celebrities took to the stage last night, hoping to impress the four judges and the audience enough to keep themselves in another week. We can't imagine it's easy to sing, dance, and stop yourself from overheating while wearing a huge mascot outfit on stage, but these celebs will do anything for a laugh, right?

Hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, the pre-recorded show saw the bottom three singers of the night be made up of an alien, a swan, and a badger. The alien was forced to reveal their identity in the end.

And it was plainly obvious who that celebrity was from the get-go. Keeping us all sane with her kitchen disco antics this year, it was revealed that 'Murder on the Dancefloor' singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor was underneath the mask.

After her elimination, the pop singer did a breakdown of how difficult it is to sing on stage wearing a mask while saying that she missed performing in front of a live audience.

She also shared a post-elimination status on Twitter, writing: "Even my one-year-old pointed at the telly and shouted ‘mummy!’ when I started singing in the alien suit!"

'The Masked Singer' will continue next Saturday night when another six masked celebrities will sing for their lives.
