It almost reads like a storyline from Father Ted, but unfortunately, this was real life for Gerard McSorley.

The actor, who played Fr Todd Unctious on the hit show, was faced with criminal charges after he damaged some flower pots outside a bank in the town of Bunbeg in Donegal.

According to the prosecuting Garda, a bank employee informed him; "He left after roaring and shouting at Ms Boyle and damaged a flower pot outside the bank."

McSorley's solicitor told Dungloe District Court that Mr McSorley regretted his actions very much and has made a full admission and apologised. He has also covered the cost of the damage to the flower pots by giving the bank €40.

Judge Paul Kelly said it was "not the worst case ever" to come before the court and McSorley was given the Probation Act over the incident.

Only in Ireland, wha'?
