Lee Thompson Young, who you may remember from playing the title character in Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson, has died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound at the age of 29.

The actor's publicist confirmed the news, issuing a statement yesterday saying: "It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning. Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed."

Young was currently starring in the television series Rizzoli & Isles and it was when he didn't show up to work yesterday morning that the show's staff became concerned and asked his landlord to check up on him.

Young will also be remembered for his roles as Chris Comer in the movie Friday Night Lights, Delmar in The Hills Have Eyes 2, as well as roles on Smallville, Scrubs and CSI: NY.
