Ed Sheeran rocking up to Westeros as a Lannister foot soldier earlier on in season seven was undoubtedly the show's most controversial cameo yet. While some fans were happy enough to see him, others found it a bit too fan servicey and just plain weird really.
The singer chatted to MTV News about his part on the show recently, which came about - as we already knew - because Maisie Williams is a huge fan. "She's come to gigs for years," Sheeran said. "They basically put me in a scene with her to kind of be like, 'Hey, thanks for doing the show for so many years. Ed's going to be in it.'"
However, Ed isn't convinced that his character is still alive: "We were all quite young, those soldiers. I doubt I'm going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world."
Even if he's not, the singer has no intention of returning to the show for its final season: "No-one wants to see me come back. I wanted to be a cameo in it, and I've done the cameo. I'm cool with it, though. I enjoyed it."
Can't say we're disappointed.
