We were pretty confident we had seen the best of Downton already, but apparently, it's yet to come! The executive producer of the series, Gareth Neame, has promised a drama filled fifth season 'with a few really nice twists and turns as well'.

Speaking to TVLine he said; "In the new season, we have the high-stakes drama, the laugh-out-loud comedy and the romance. We have all of the characters doing the things people love to see them doing.'

When asked about Dowager Countess’ (Maggie Smith's) storyline, he said; "It’s Downton at its best, this storyline. It’s fantastic." Well, he couldn't build that up anymore now could he? Exciting though, and delighted we will be seeing much more from the talented Maggie Smith.

He also went on to answer if he saw an end in sight for the show, and oddly said he was hoping for a Schindlers List type of ending... which may sound strange, but at the same time, you get what we means!; "In whatever the storylines end up being, I think people will want some sort of resolution. I’d like there to be some sort of message where you get to the end of it all and you say, “Oh, I see. So Anna Bates is my grandma.” I don’t know how we’ll do this, but I’ve always loved the ending of Schindler’s List when they cut to the piece in color, and they’re all putting the stone on the monument. I loved the way that connected the Second World War, which none of us lived through, to people who were still alive today. I’d love to somehow deliver that message."
