Dizzee Rascal is getting applauded for shutting down Piers Morgan's "race baiting" during a live interview on 'Good Morning Britain'.
The rapper was on today's episode of the talk show to discuss a new series of drive-in concerts. Piers Morgan asked Dizzee about Black Lives Matter during the interview but the musician made it clear he just wanted to talk about his new gig.
When asked about what the movement means, Dizzee answered: "What makes you think I know?"
"I don't know, because you're a Black man," Piers replied, to which the rapper responded: "But am I the Black spokesperson?"
Piers said he was "curious if he had a view" on the matter. Dizzee said that he had "a bunch of views".
He continued: "today we're talking about the drive-in", adding "I can't really be bothered to go into all of this this morning."
Dizzee also pointed out that he can use social media to express his views. He said to Piers Morgan "you can't force me" to talk about the issues.
Piers responded that that was an "aggressive answer to a simple question." Dizzee replied: "This is what happens, I become the aggressive Black man. I told you! I just wanted to be nice, and look how he's behaving! You know who you need on here – Akala. We're not going to fall out, but that's the spokesman for something sensible."
You can watch the exchange below:
"I've got a bunch of views...but right now is not the time. (...) Right now it's real early."

Here's the full interview:
The rapper acted in great humour about it all. Several viewers took to Twitter to commend him for it.
I watched that and tbf, if he wasn’t ready to say something constructive he did the right thing not to say anything. He recommended they get Akala on. I respect that. Instead of saying something that the right wing would jump on and twist.

piers race-baiting. i'm glad dizzee didn't fall for it, he was there to talk about the music/concert

Dizzee made these 2 look like fools, well done to Dizzee for refusing to get drawn into a racebait segment 👏👏👏

Good to see @DizzeeRascal carrying himself so well and standing up to Piers Morgan on #GMB. Not allowing himself to become a spokesperson for BLM on this occasion and calling out Piers after he was called “aggressive”, explaining how that plays in to a certain stereotype.

I hugely respect @DizzeeRascal for not being pushed to speak about BLM on GMB this morning. The idea that because he’s a black man he should speak on everything whenever it’s demanded is dumb. He also told them to get @akalamusic on again, “the spokesman for something sensible.”

Piers Morgan asked dizzee rascal about BLM and he said I’m not the spokesperson for black people. ‘I got my Afro out so I’m looking all natural and that so idk if that’s why you’re asking me’
No dizzee has finished me😂😂. He said you never let people speak and I’m not the one

I am glad Dizzee Rascal refused to pander to Piers Morgan. Yes Dizzee has a platform but it's exhausting as a black person how people expect us to constantly explain our struggles and racism. Piers was being sensationalist and treating him as a performative exercise. https://t.co/uUyS8fzd3j
