Last January brought the sad news that actress and Corrie star Anne Kirkbride had passed away, and since then we have been wondering how exactly they were going to go about writing Deirdre Barlow's exit from the soap.

Kirkbride took a break from the soap last year so currently in Corrie, Deirdre is off staying with her friend Bev. We found out in April that the soap was planning to write Deirdre's exit in for the summer and that it would involve an emotional send off, where past cast members would return.

However we now know the details of Deirdre's death and how her fellow neighbours of the cobbles will find out. Spoilers below, as you can probably tell.

The heartbreaking scenes will see Deirdre's family and friends holding a welcome home party for her, only for Bev (Susie Blake) to arrive in with the news that Deirdre had died of a brain aneurysm.

Bev goes on to explain how Deirdre died 'peacefully' in her garden after packing her bags to return to Weatherfield, she then gives Ken her wedding rings.

The scenes, which were filmed earlier this week, apparently left many of the cast and crew in tears.... we're welling up ourselves just thinking about it.

Anne Kirkbride is also set to be honoured at this year's British Soap Awards, where her on-screen husband William Roache and Corrie best friend Bev Callard will present the Outstanding Achievement award to her real-life husband David Beckett.
