Dating shows are ten a penny these days, but when a new one pops up every now and again, we tend to give it a shot. Enter Ultimate Wingman, a show which pits three fellas against each other, in an effort to win a date for their mate.

The brainchild of a bunch of final year DCU Communications students, Ultimate Wingman started life as an assignment, but it seems the little project that could is set to become something far more exciting. The group's lecturer Rob Cawley pitched the show to an international distributor or two, and now the gang have got the go ahead to shoot their very own pilot in front of a live studio audience. They've even nabbed Robbie Kane from Q102 to give Ray Foley a run for his money.

So, how does the show work exactly? Well, three lads convince their best buds to talk a young wan into going on a date with them, in scenes that echo those courting rituals of old: "Here young wan, will ya meet him?" The lady in question can't see her potential suitors, so they have to rely on their wingmen to sell them to her. After four rounds of dating show banter, one of the boys is crowned the Ultimate Wingman, and his best bud gets the girl.

The gang are 'excirah and delirah' to film the pilot in The Helix on April 9th, and sure if it all goes well, we could be seeing the show on the telly in the not too distant future. And to think they said Irish students didn't stand a chance in the 'current climate'...
