Never mind Izzy Armstrong and Tina McIntyre, Mikey North, aka Gary Windass off Coronation Street, has bigger fish to fry. He thinks Hollywood's lacking in the ginger department, and wouldn't mind bringing a bit of balance to the small screen Stateside. Note to America: Forget the Cobbles, we've got plenty of fine looking ginger lads on the Emerald Isle if you need them.
As per the Press Assocation, Corrie's third most popular redhead (can't be forgetting our Ches and young Fiz now lads) has his sights set on one role in particular. "I want to go into Homeland as Damian Lewis's brother because he's ginger as well" Mikey explained, "so I'm hoping he's going to get a younger brother and I can pop over and do that". And in fairness, he wouldn't look massively out of place opposite Claire Danes, as this here photo shows us.
Of course, North has some experience playing an army man. His Corrie counterpart, Gary, went off to Afghanistan a few years ago, only to return home suffering from shellshock. Perhaps Brody's younger brother could do the same, eh?
Now, while we're sure Mikey would do a very good job, we can think of an Irish ginger or two who would be perfect for the role. How about our very own Domhnall Gleeson for instance? We think he'd make a fairly decent stab at it, and look rather spiffing in the uniform to boot. If they ever do decide to up the redheaded ante, we simply can't think of anyone better for the role.
Speaking of Homeland, Damian Lewis and co will be returning to TV screens later this year for Season 3, which we're told will focus on a bomb plot. Lewis says he thinks Carrie and Brody are through, but we won't believe it until we see it. And just to make it perfectly clear, there are no plans to cast Brody the younger. For now...
