With How I Met Your Mother coming to an end rather soon (*relief*) we had a feeling that Cobie Smulders might pop up in Agents of S.H.I.EL.D and our suspicions were confirmed this weekend when the show's pilot was screened at Comic Con.

Smulders reprised her role as Agent Maria Hill from The Avengers, and her guest slot sent Twitter into an absolute frenzy as fans who couldn't make the convention got blow-by-blow accounts of the goings on online. It seems Maria enjoys Robin Sparkles status among even the Whedonites.

It's still not clear what will happen to Hill from here on in though. Smulders will be busy with How I Met Your Mother for pretty much the entire first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D so, if anything, she'll probably continue to make guest appearances. If the show gets the green light for a second season, her contract with CBS (which The Hollywood Reporter says is the main thing keeping her off the show at the moment) would most likely be up, leaving her free to take on a more permanent role.

We already know that Smulders will be back in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but we might be seeing a lot more of her than we thought, eh?
