Great Scott! They've actually done it. Fans have been worked into a franzy online as to what it all means.

Animation creators Adult Swim have done what we've always dreamed of - they've managed to get Christopher Lloyd to star in 'Rick and Morty'.

In the very brief teaser that you can see below, we see the famed actor step out of one of Rick's typical glowing green portals with 'IT' star Jaeden Martell. Performing a trademark Rick belch, the live-action Rick says: "Morty, we're home!", to which Jaeden replies, as Morty, "Awh jeez!"

Here's the brief Christopher Lloyd 'Rick and Morty' teaser.

But, what does it all mean? Well, it might just be some nice fanfare for the followers of the sci-fi animation series. We've known for quite some time that the character of Rick is based on Christopher Lloyd's mad scientist Doc Brown character from the 'Back to the Future' franchise.

However, Adult Swim actually has said that this live-action version of Rick and Morty hail from the C-132 universe, which was the universe in which the Rick and Morty of the first two volumes of the comic series hail from. And, with the two final episode of season five due to be released this Sunday, it could mean that things are about to get a whole lot crazier for the portal-travelling family.

The two final episodes are titled 'Forgetting Sarick Mortshall' and 'Rickmurai Jack'. Are Adult Swim about to do the unthinkable and have an episode based in a live-action universe? And does that mean the rest of the Smith family are about to get live-action counterparts too? We won't know for certain until this weekend.

Christopher Lloyd previously stated to the Phoenix New Times that he'd "like to" appear in the animated series in some capacity in the future, adding that the series is "a lot of fun".

The final two episodes will be available on E4 and Channel 4 on demand from this Monday, September 6 at 10 pm.
