The festive season in soapland always sees the drama cranked up to the absolute max, and it's commonly known that pretty much ANYTHING can happen. Main characters could pop their clogs, long lost faces could return, and divorce papers could appear from nowhere - it's non-stop.

While we don't want to give too much away about the soaps you will be enjoying with your selection box, here's an idea of what you can expect...

Coronation Street

Poor aul Sally, it won't be a happy Christmas for her behind bars but to make matters worse, Tim arrives in for a visit and tells her he slept with her sister Gina. Ah here, Tim, couldn't that have waited for St. Stephen's Day? Never fear though, the new year will see the family seeing through Dodgy Duncan once and for all and determined to get Sally out of prison.

Elsewhere, Daniel tries to make it the best Christmas ever for Sinead while it's turbulent times for Johnny and Jenny's relationship. There's also rumours there's a hit-and-run on Corrie around Christmas, but shhh, you didn't hear that from us.

EastEnders

It's all go in 'EastEnders' this Christmas but sure no surprises there. Mick and Stuart are set for the showdowns to end all showdown as the pub landlord gets revenge on his old friend once and for all. It's also been revealed that Hayley and Alfie's one night stand will be exposed so there is heartbreak in store for poor Kat this Christmas and she's not afraid to show it, as you can see in the trailer below.

It's also looking likely that Sharon and Keanu's steamy affair will be rumbled by Phil but nothing confirmed on that yet. Phil will also have his hands full when Kim goes into labour in the Minute Mart store room and he's the only one around to help. There will be some merriment too as the Slaters are also forced to get their head around Jean's new fella - Ian Beale.

Emmerdale

After all that drama, you will be grateful to hear that it's a much more lighter affair in store in 'Emmerdale' this Christmas (for the most part) with a surprise wedding in store. And by surprise, we mean the groom doesn't even know yet. Yep, Jessie is planning on tying the knot with Marlon by springing a ceremony on him on Christmas Day but how will he react? As with every soap wedding, there will be plenty of drama in store before they even get to that point.

Elsewhere, the icky storyline between Maya and Jacob continues over the Christmas while Bob's money troubles continue and Nicola and Bernice are at loggerheads.

'Fair City'

The love triangle between Carol, Robbie and Hayley comes to a head in Carrigstown this Christmas, but who will fair Robbie choose? There's also tough times ahead for Melanie who finds herself living in her car this Christmas, and trying to cover it from her son Alex. A sad but important storyline considering the state of affairs for many in Ireland this year. It's also a tough Christmas for Decco given all that's happened recently but he tries to make the most of it for baby Samantha. Elsewhere, Bob promises Renee a peaceful Christmas day but sure when has that ever gone to plan in Carrigstown?
