Our favourite Roscommon actor Chris O'Dowd is to lend his voice to new animated series 'Puffin Rock'.

The series, which has been bought by RTEjr and Nick Jr UK, will follow the adventures of a family of puffins in particular, Pip, a puffin who is only mad for an adventure as she explores the rocks and cliffs on a wild Irish island. This is O'Dowd's first venture into the world of children's television. Earlier this year he voiced the part of Grub the snail in 'Epic'. Speaking about his new project, the 'Bridesmaids' actor confessed his love of puffins, 'I love the whole idea behind Puffin Rock. I can't wait to be involved in it, but then I do love anything with puffins,'.

The star, who recently broke his leg while on the piss in Ireland over the weekend, also admitted he was looking forward to having some kids of his own. 'I've started thinking about my family a lot,' he said. 'Maybe it's the sort of thing you do when you're on the cusp of having children. Or maybe it's just as you get older -- a mortality thing.'

The show will air on RTE in Autumn 2014 and goes into production next month at Cartoon Saloon in Kilkenny. Executive producer for animation in RTE Pauline Macnamara, said about the programme, 'We're delighted to be bringing stories of Irish coastal wildlife and environment to young Irish children through the world of Pip, Baba and friends. It will capture the imaginations of children everywhere'.
