After the so-so return of Top Gear, it's clear that BBC are panicking to replace Chris Evans as the show continues to plummet in the ratings.

Now that Chris Evans has departed the show, many believed that Matt LeBlanc would step into the vacuum and become the main presenter of the show. However, sources who spoke to the Sunday People and Daily Mirror have it that celebrity chef James Martin is next in line to replace Evans.

Martin, who hosts Saturday Kitchen on BBC, is said to have lobbied for the job in the past and was reportedly miffed that Evans got the job over him. It's understood the reason for BBC's snubbing of Martin was due to his connections with rival ITV. Martin currently hosts This Morning on ITV every Friday, standing in for Eamonn Holmes.

The chef, who describes himself as a petrolhead, is said to be meeting BBC later this week to discuss the possibility of taking on the show.

LeBlanc, however, is still in the running and has has vocally expressed an interest in hosting the show by himself. Many believed that LeBlanc was an odd choice to take on Top Gear, however he more than handled himself properly throughout the tumultuous first season.

Rumours abounded on the set that LeBlanc was set to leave the show unless Evans left and, as we saw, Evans is now gone from Top Gear.

Would Martin be a good choice? Let us know in the comments!
