This is the perfect demonstration the positive power of self-belief.

'Game of Thrones' has clocked up a record-breaking number of Emmy nominations for its final season, but not all of them were down to network HBO being on the ball.

It's been revealed that actress Gwendoline Christie, aka Brienne of Tarth, had to submit herself for inclusion after HBO failed to throw her name into the pot. The good news? She earned a nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category.

Although it's understandable that a show with such a huge cast as 'Game of Thrones' can't submit every Tom, Dick and Harry that has a credit, it's puzzling why HBO chose to overlook Christie's performance. She had arguably her best season on the show, as her character finally received a knighthood and confessed her love for Jaime Lannister, and Christie was roundly praised for her development of the character.

She's up against her fellow cast members Lena Headey (Cersei), Maisie Williams (Arya) and Sophie Turner (Sansa).

She's also not the only one that self-submitted, either: Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Carice Van Houten (Melisandre) also earned nominations after putting their own names forward.

Be your own cheerleader, indeed.
