It began life as a sketch on RTE's Republic of Telly, but Bridget & Eamon could be taking on the likes of Father Ted and Mrs. Brown's Boys.

The series has been picked up by UKTV Gold for broadcast, making it the first show fully-funded by RTE on Gold. The exact figure hasn't been disclosed, but Jennifer Zamparelli and Bernard O'Shea are both said to be delighted with the news. Bridget & Eamon is already slated for a second season after its first received strong ratings for the national broadcaster.

UKTV Gold is considered a classic comedy channel, hosting the likes of Only Fools & Horses and Blackadder as well as more recent shows like Bull and, now, Bridget & Eamon.

Bridget & Eamon will return to Irish screens this February for a second season.
