The man famed for his stints in Titanic, Twister and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will now take on the role that garnered Denzel Washington that Oscar.

Given this sequel to the film, which is being described as "a reimagining that begins 15 years after the 2001 film left off", is being piloted by CBS, the pressure of on Oscar nomination won't be weighing heavily on the 60-year-old (yep, he's 60, here he is not looking a day over 40 with his 22-year-old son, James), but a Golden Globe or an Emmy could be up for grabs...

THR reports: "Paxton will make his broadcast series regular debut and star as Frank Rourke, a veteran LAPD cop who heads up the Special Investigation Section (SIS), a unit that goes after the worst of the worst... Needless to say, Frank isn’t too keen to be babysitting a new trainee, Kyle Craig (uncast). Denzel Washington earned an Oscar win for his leading role as seasoned detective Alonzo Harris in the 2001 feature. Ethan Hawke co-starred as the young cop."

Jerry Bruckheimer and his Warner Bros. Television-based banner will exec produce, while it's set to be penned by Will Beall (Castle, Gangster Squad), who just so happened to be a former LAPD detective, so he'll know what he's taking about.
