It's now an annual tradition here in Ireland, and if you're in Dublin for the day of casting, the city looks like a beard-and-long hair convention.

Yes, History Channel's long-running TV series, Vikings, is looking for extras for the upcoming season. As always, it's worth pointing out that the casting session is for people in Ireland only - and no-one outside of Ireland will be called. You need to be a resident in Ireland, with a working visa and a PPS number. After that, it's pretty much open season. According to the casting call posted on Facebook today, the show are looking for people of all ethnic backgrounds of all genders, but those with special skills are encouraged to attend.

These include "fishermen, carpenters, craftspeople, farmworkers, axe men/women, skilled swords people, M&F archers, bowmen and women, rowers, sailors, ship/deck hands, calligraphers, Latin and Arab speakers, musicians, midwives, nurses, animal handlers, hunters, blacksmiths, lumberjacks, magicians, jugglers, tree surgeons, whittlers, sporty types, boxers and martial artists."

Of course, this is a far from definitive list and anyone who has an interest and meets the criteria of being in Ireland with a working visa and a PPS number is encouraged to attend. The first casting call takes place in Dublin on August 29th and 30th at The Complex on Little Mary St., Dublin 7, from 10AM to 5PM, and another casting call will take place in Wicklow at the Grand Hotel on Abbey St. on September 1st, from 10AM to 5PM.
