It was bound to happen, really.

If you've been watching 'Baby Reindeer' on Netflix, you'll be aware that the story about wannabe comedian Donny Dunn being stalked by a woman called Martha was actually inspired by a real-life experience by Richard Gadd (who plays Donny in the series.)

Over several years, the stalker sent Gadd more than 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemails.

Considering how it's nigh-impossible to remain anonymous in today's world, now the woman who inspired the character of Martha has been tracked down - and she has spoken out against the show.

The paper chose not to name the woman, who is 58 and living in London, and who accused Gadd of "bullying an older woman on television for fame and fortune" and that she had received online "death threats and abuse from Richard Gadd supporters".

"He's using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now," she said. "I'm the victim. He's written a bloody show about me."

She also denied that her nickname for Gadd was 'baby reindeer', adding: "Richard Gadd has got 'main character syndrome'. He always thinks he's at the centre of things. I'm not writing shows about him or promoting them in the media, am I? If he wanted me to be properly anonymous, he could have done so. Gadd should leave me alone."

The hit Netflix show was adapted from Gadd's 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show 'Monkey See Monkey Do', which documented his experience - as well as the harrowing story of his rape at the hands of an older director.

Last week, he asked fans to stop attempting to uncover who the older director was, writing on Instagram: "Please don't speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That's not the point of our show.'
