As far as TV reboots go, it really was only a matter of time before 'Walker, Texas Ranger' got the treatment.
After all, 'Magnum PI' has been rebooted, as has 'Hawaii Five-O' and 'Knight Rider', so it was only so long before Chuck Norris' character was rebranded with something new. So it goes that 'Supernatural' star Jared Padelecki now dons the Stetson - that's the hat brand - for 'Walker, Texas Ranger'.
The plot synopsis for the series sees Padalecki playing the role - not a continuation or sequel, as such - and will "explore morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground", as well as the most inventive ways of roundhouse-kicking someone in the face.
Padalecki is best known for his role on 'Supernatural' as Sam Winchester, which is now in its 15th - that's right, FIFTEENTH - and final season. As well as 'Supernatural', Padalecki was also in early-aughts teen dramedy series 'Gilmore Girls' as Dean Forester.
It's understood that the reboot will also pair Walker with a female sidekick like the original, who is the only woman in the Texas Ranger's history, and if there isn't a romantic relationship between them or some kind of sexual chemistry, we will eat a Stetson.
Here's the synopsis Deadline reported which, to be honest, sounds as cheesy as you'd expect.
"At the center of the series is Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case – only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home."
Roundhouse kicks to the face for everyone!
