Our own Colin Farrell confirmed on Sunday he was to take one of the most highly coveted roles in television with a lead in True Detective season 2, and now it's been confirmed by HBO that Vince Vaughn will be joining him. The Marty to his Rust if you will.

According to a statement from HBO, the story will revolve around three cops and a career criminal who navigate a web of conspiracy after a murder.

Farrell plays Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a man in danger of losing his criminal empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

We still aren't totally convinced that this pair will really reach the same great heights as Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who have set the bar incredibly high with their performances in season one, but you know what, we reckon these two can pull it out of the bag.

Seriously, if someone had told you two years ago that Matthew McConaughey would be bagging Oscars and whatnot, you would have laughed in their obviously delusional faces.

Let the Vaughnaissance/Farrellnaissance begin.
