It's been rumoured for some time, however the man himself has confirmed it - Colin Farrell is joining the cast of HBO's True Detective.

In a recent interview, Farrell revealed that he is to join the cast of the hugely successful series.

This, as we know, isn't the first time Farrell has appeared on a TV show. The Castleknock native had his first leading role on Channel 4's Ballykissangel, before starring in Joel Schumacher's military drama Tigerland.

Farrell admits that there's "a level of anxiety" in approaching TV again. "It's been shown time and time again how HBO have raised the bar," Farrell explained.

As for the plot of Season 2, the details are more than a little sketchy. Farrell says that the show will be filming in Los Angeles and that they are still in the process of locking down other castmembers.

Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has said in the past that the new series will be set in California.

We also know that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will definitely not be joining the cast, instead remaining on as executive producers.

True Detective is expected on our TV screens in 2015.
