It turns out that, yes, two versions of 'Love Island' in a year can be too much.
ITV bosses have axed the winter version of 'Love Island' after just one season. Their focus will now be on the forthcoming summer series.
The South African version of the reality series will not be returning in 2022, as previously reported. The 2020 series eventually saw Paige and Finn crowned as the winners.
Instead, ITV will concentrate on the regular, summer series for the future. A spokesperson for the series said to Digital Spy: "We are currently focusing on the forthcoming summer series."
It's been two years since the summer series of 'Love Island' was on our screens, which seems like an eternity ago (or not long enough for some people).
In terms of this year's 'Love Island', which was confirmed to be returning a number of weeks ago, the rumour mill is currently spinning. According to unconfirmed reports, the series will be back on our screens by the end of June or the beginning of July.
There's been no confirmation from ITV yet, but according to sources, the production crew is scheduled to fly out to Majorca in June to begin preparation for the next series.
However, should a third wave of COVID-19 arrive in the UK, production apparently has the island of Jersey as a backup. Nothing has been confirmed by ITV bosses yet, so it's all speculation for now.
Winter 'Love Island' presenter Laura Whitmore and her husband Iain Sterling, who narrates the series, recently welcomed their first baby girl into the world. The pair have not confirmed whether they will both be returning to their former jobs.
