It's been a difficult week for Zac Efron who was rushed to hospital after contracting a deadly illness while filming his new show in Papua New Guinea.

According to reports, the 32-year-old US star took ill with a "form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection" in the days leading up to Christmas. The actor was flown from Papua New Guinea to Brisbane, Australia, according to The Sunday Telegraph.

He was admitted to St Andrews War Memorial Hospital but thankfully was given the all-clear to go home to the US on Christmas Eve.

Efron was in Papua New Guinea to film his new series called, eh, 'Killing Zac Efron', which he's clearly giving a fair bash.

The show, which sounds like a Bear Grylls kind-of affair, is set to air on short-form mobile video platform Quibi when it launches in April.
