Sean Hehir earns this 'Irish Sporting Moment' award for his historic Dublin Marathon win back in October. The primary school teacher from Clare became the first Irish man to achieve the feat since John Treacy, 20 years ago.

It was an extremely exciting race from an Irish perspective, with 2 Irishmen fighting for their place in Dublin Marathon history. Joe Sweeney was the man putting it up to Hehir that day, forcing the lead from him for a 2/3km stretch of the race. But, it was Hehir who bided his time and, on the 20 mile mark, he made his move and managed to pip Sweeney marginally down the stretch with an impressive winning time of 2:18:19.

In an interview with The Irish Times Sean had this to say about his victory:

'I’ve been living here in Dublin for over 10 years, since I was 17, and to win this race, [I’m] absolutely delighted. Only coming round the final corner did I really believe I would win. It’s a very special feeling, it really is.'

Sean, you're a good man to run for feckin' ages, so you are. Fair play to you.
