Yeah, that headline's correct.

Adherents of the religion known as Pastafarianism believe that a colander - that's the thing you strain the water from your spaghetti and pasta on - is a sacred implement in their religion and should be worn on the head whenever possible, so as to be nearer to their god, the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Again, we are totally not making this up and you look it up on Wikipedia.

Anyway, Lindsay Miller, a Massachusetts woman who follows Pastafarianism, was recently having her licence renewed when she asked to have a colander on her head as part of her religious beliefs. The people at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, of course, thought this was a joke and refused.

However, a case was taken by the American Humanist Association that successfully argued for Miller's somewhat bizarre request. As the RMV's regulations state, people are allowed to wear headdresses in their driver's licence photo on the grounds of religion or medical conditions.

As Pastafarianism has over a million or so adherents, it's all perfectly legal. Just look at her licence.

Yes, as you've probably guessed, Pastafarianism is a mock religion and has no basis in the real world. Its only goal is to highlight just how stupid all religion is and regularly comes up in religious freedom cases such as this.

Good for her, though. She's rocking the colander.
