Baseball is known as America's pastime, but on Thursday, it's going to be much more than that for Will Ferrell.

The comedy star is travelling to Arizona, where every spring, 15 different teams report for training in the warm weather of Arizona to get ready for a long, grueling season in the major leagues.

Ferrell isn't quite gearing up for that, but for one day only, he's going to appear in a number of games in what is known as the Cactus League, as teams face off against each other (in what are essentially friendly matches) ahead of the season's opening day.

The Cactus League is great for fans as the games all take place in one day, and they can get from game to game with a relatively short drive. Since Ferrell is playing however, he's going to be transported by helicoper between the different venues. As of yet, there are only two places where Ferrell's appearance has been confirmed, the match between the  Oakland Athletics - Seattle Mariners (3pm local time) and the Los Angeles Dodgers - San Diego Padres (9.15pm local time) game, with more to be confirmed later. Between all his appearances, he will play nine positions on the field and presumably showing off his sporting prowess.

The whole thing is being filmed as well, as Major League Baseball and HBO team up for an event that they hope will raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
