If you've been on X (Twitter) in recent days, you may have noticed a lot of people talking about 'The Bear' star Ayo Edebiri and her supposed Irish roots.
The actress, who plays Sydney in the show, is actually American with Barbadian and Nigerian parents - but that has not stopped 'Irish Princess Ayo Edebiri' memes from popping up everywhere in recent days, particularly since the Golden Globes.
It seems that the rumour of her Irish heritage stems from a jokey interview that Edebiri did with Letterboxd at SXSW in March 2023. She joked that she had spent four months in Ireland preparing to play the role of Jenny the Donkey in 'The Banshees of Inisherin', and adopted a comedy Oirish accent for the bit.
The actor was clearly joking, but that 'Irish Ayo Edebiri' meme has become a runaway train in recent days, with Edebiri herself even re-sharing on Instagram a recent tweet from the 'Film in Dublin' account that jokingly congratulated 'Ireland's own Ayo Edebiri' for her BAFTA Rising Star Award.
She even threw in a cupla focail, saying 'Go díreach' - meaning 'Exactly!'
