Unless you were out doing something better or are the type of person who has decided not to sacrifice all your messaging means and contents to Mark Zuckerberg, you probably noticed that WhatsApp went down last night for a prolonged period.

The Facebook-owned service confirmed that it was down last night but did not give a reason to the outage, which left many of its 1 billion users frustrated and confused.

"Earlier today, WhatsApp users in all parts of the world were unable to access WhatsApp for a few hours. We have now fixed the issue and apologize for the inconvenience," WhatsApp said via an email sent to TechCrunch.

That wasn't enough to calm the masses though, who took to Twitter to vent about life without the app using #WhatsAppDown.
