The debate over Irish Water rolls on, now with another twist in the tale.

The government is now putting in place capped charges for water in an effort to sway public opinion back in favour and get people to sign up.

The charges will capped at €160 a year for families and €60 for single adult homes. This will also include a rebate of €100 for signing up.

The charges will be frozen until 2018.

Capping the water charges will, according to the government, mean that water charges won't shoot up when full metering begins.

The cap on water charges will be signed into legislation later today, along with a bill that will ensure Irish Water is not sold into private hands.

These measures come as overwhelming public opposition hit record levels, with Tanaiste Joan Burton held at a mass protest in Jobstown, Co. Dublin over the weekend.

Will this make you sign up for Irish Water? Or are you still opposed to the charges on principle?
