Was it as awful as everyone thought?

In case you need a refresher, here’s the scene in which Rachel presents and serves the infamous truffle – which as it turns out is actually half an English trifle and half a shepherd’s pie.

The guests didn’t want to hurt Rachel’s feelings so they give it a try and then make an excuse to eat it elsewhere, namely throw it away. In the end, Judy Gellar tells her blatantly, ‘It did not taste good’ – although Ross’s comment of ‘It tastes like feet!’ is the most beloved line from the episode (which you can vote for in our countdown of the best Friends Thanksgiving episodes, fyi).

Zap2It’s Casey Rackham and Chris Hayner decided to make the infamous dish, which consisted of, in order of layers from bottom to top:
- lady fingers
- a layer of jam
- custard
- raspberries
- more lady fingers
- beef sauteed with peas and onion
- more custard
- bananas
- whipped cream
just in case you were, you know, thinking of making it yourself.

According to Casey, one goes through four stages. First, one tastes the savoury quality, then regret, then deliciousness, and lastly awfulness.

So there you go, it is about as bad as the Friends folk made it out to be.
