Cody “The Renegade” Gibson was on the card at UFC 178, and after a narrow loss to Manny Gamburyan, he decided to head out for a few drinks after his fight.
He would have been forgiven for thinking that his evening's fighting was over, but as it turns out, some random guy at the bar had a problem with him (we're not sure what, exactly) and decided it was time for things to kick off.
Despite Gibson clearly being the smaller man (by at least a foot and a good 50 pounds) and the fact that he did warn him to "Google me, bitch", the drunk guy could not be dissuaded from trying to fight, and he took a cheap shot at him.
Gibson got serious then, threw up his guard and then took him down with a double leg takedown, before security hopped in and saved the guy from what could well have been a bad evening for him.
Cody has been speaking since the video leaked on TMZ and said that he's not proud of the footage, and he told Sherdog that he was intoxicated at the time. However, he was glad that he just went for the takedown and didn't throw any punches, because "had I beat the hell out of him or something, I think it could be a whole lot worse situation.”
He said that his management have been in touch with the UFC and everything seems alright, but he also teaches wrestling at a school in his native California, where he also feels that he'll need to discuss what happened with his students: "especially in my community, I’m definitely a role model. This is not the message I want to give to the kids".
