Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, it turns out there are volcanoes in there, and inside those volcanoes there are sharks.
Scientists near the Solomon Islands dropped a camera to observe the Kavachi underwater volcano, and the resulting footage surprised them. While they expected that the hostile, acidic waters of the volcano wouldn't be home to any sort of living creature, but it turns out there are sharks down there.
The footage shows Scalloped Hammerheads and Silky Sharks swimming around (you can spot them around the 1:15 mark), seemingly unaffected by the conditions.
For researcher Brennan Phillips, that created a few important questions for him about the volcano and the sharks that live there: "when it’s erupting there’s no way anything could live in there, and so to see large animals like this that are living and potentially could die at any moment – it brings up lots of questions. Do they leave? Do they have some sort of sign that it’s about to erupt? Do they blow up sky-high in little bits?"
I think we all know what happens when it erupts.
