Nigel Farage faces plenty of criticism for his party's line against immigration, and regularly has to defend himself and UKIP against claims of racism.

Most recently, Farage found himself doing that very thing this morning on LBC Radio London, as he tried to explain why he thought it was unfair that Kerry Smith, the UKIP candidate for Basildon South in Essex, was dismissed.

Smith used the word "disgusting poofters" and referred to a woman with a Chinese name as a "chinky bird", according to i100. Smith was dismissed, and in the exchange (which starts at 21:42) Farage claims that Smith talks in a way that a lot of people from that background would (he is from a council estate) and asked "if you're going out for a Chinese, what do you say you're going for?", before denying that he would use either of the derogatory slurs that Smith did.
