Michael Sam, defensive linesman and MVP for the Universirty of Missouri, officially came out as gay earlier this week, ahead of the upcoming NFL draft.

Remarkably, if Sam is to be signed by an NFL team during the draft, which is likely due to to his ability, he will become the first ever openly gay man to do so.

"I came to tell the world that I'm an openly, proud gay man," he said in an interview with ESPN on Monday.

As promising a sign of progression that this is, it has unsurprisingly divided much opinion over in the US, with some critics claiming that the NFL isn't ready for an openly gay player and others predicting that it will hurt his draft chances.

In a video that is doing the rounds this morning, Texan newsman, Dale Hansen of ABC, came out and lambasted Sam's critics in an epic monologue. Have a look.
