In what was a touching and sombre moment on air, news anchor Dave Benton revealed that he was losing his battle against cancer.

Dave Benton of WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois has been battling cancer for a while now, but has been given the news by doctors that it has returned, and it is too large for an operation or for chemotherapy.

That left him with a frightening diagnosis: he only has between four and six months left to live. While that was undoubtedly a devastating thing to hear, he decided to share the news with his viewers towards the end of last week on the show Entertainment Illinois, and it has since gone viral.

Benton revealed in a heartbreaking few minutes that he is going to try a new treatment that is focused not on stopping the disease, but on slowing the growth and getting the best of his last few months.

Benton has received a huge amount of support online as a result of his announcement, and remains positive and upbeat that he will keep working for as long as he can. He also revealed that the well-wishes and tweets have been great, and that the viewers have always dedicated themselves to his battle too, which has been a source of strength for him.
