Taking a trip to Africa at the moment has some dangers, mainly if you're heading to those areas affected by Ebola, but this is also not great.

A Chinese man who recently returned from six months working in Africa went to see doctors complaining of a skin inflammation that left him with itchy red blotches on his body. When the condition did not improve, they sent him to Shenzhen Nanshan Hospital, for further investigations.

There, dermatologists discovered that it wasn't a skin condition that was troubling the man, who is only identified by his surname, Ma. Rather it was something a lot more troubling: 20 live maggots were crawling around underneath the skin of his abdomen and right thigh.

A blood test confirmed their suspicions and the man underwent a surgical procedure where the maggots, identified as tumbu fly maggots that nestle and feed on human flesh, were removed from his body.

We're never going outside again. Ever.
