Cathal Pendred, the former Cage Warriors welterweight champion, will have his first fight as a castmember of the UFC's top-rated TV show The Ultimate Fighter and judging by the weigh-in for the fight, it's going to be an absolute barn-burner.
Dublin's Pendred, who is part of MMA legend BJ Penn's team, will face American fighter Hector Urbina for a place in the quarter finals of the tournament. The winner of the season will receive a "six figure" UFC contract and Pendred is among the favourites to join the ranks of previous winners including Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping, Nate Diaz and others in what has been described as the toughest tournament in all of sports.
It's nice to see the tricolour flying proudly in the Ultimate Fighter gym and there aren't many athletes more equipped than Pendred to do the flag justice, either. You can see the episode tonight on BT Sports 2 at 10pm.
