2013 was a great year for the internet. Between record breaking YouTube views for Miley Cyrus and all her twerking to more tweets being sent per minute than there are people in Ireland happening in Japan, we're surprised the internet didn't go bust on us. And we ourselves almost broke a few times thanks to the popularity of one Russell Brand and one Japanese Dinosaur Prank, but more on those later.

Right now, we're taking you back to January 2013, when we were still getting over Christmas and trying to get used to a year with '13' in it. It may be unlucky for some, but we think it was pretty great. And here's the top five WTF moments that made January the perfect start to the year.

Les Miserables was the movie of the month and went on to bring Oscar glory to Anne Hathaway, but our shining moment from the film was when one user decided to film his parents after they'd seen it. The outcome was hysterical and internet gold.

Good old Aengus, eh? The RTÉ News presenter began the year with a bang, and made it all the way around the world for his blooper that made the nation fall about the place laughing and firmly put him in our catalogue of legendary newscasters.

One Direction did the impossible and became an even bigger deal in 2013, so it was only fair that the One Direction fan take in some of the spotlight. Unfortunately what was revealed didn't exactly instill hope in them.

It may have been the year of the selfie, but before we got there we had the accidental selfie. And this one pretty much ruled the roost. Everyone learned a lesson from this one: Always be aware of reflective surfaces when taking photos, especially when you're in the nip.
