The World Series Of Poker's 'Big One for One Drop' event took place on Tuesday night, and it is fairly likely that it's a night that Conor Drinan won't be forgetting in a hurry.

When you get two aces, you've got to think that you stand a pretty good chance of winning, which is why Conor Drinan decided to push his luck and go all in, surely there was no better hand? Not only that, but because the stakes were high and the entry fee was $1 million, if you manage to win the overall tournament, you get your hands on $15,306,688 (€11.4 million), which is a tasty pot.

Well, Cary Katz, the man sitting opposite him, just so happened to have a good hand too; he also had two aces, which is why he warned Drinan to "save your money kid, you can't win every pot". That's rare enough, but what happened next was not only bad luck, but may well be, as ESPN commentator Lon McEachern put it, “the worst beat in the history of tournament poker".

When their cards came out, they both had around a 2% chance of winning, and the odds overwhelmingly suggested (98%) that they would split the pot. But then the almost impossible happened, as the river card completed the flush, giving Katz the win because he held the ace of hearts. Drinan was left $1 million out of pocket, and finished 18th overall so he received no prize money either.

And you thought you had a bad Tuesday night...
