With the goal of improving road safety and helping those who can't drive, for one reason or another, to get around, the Google self-driving car project is pretty amazing.

When it comes to innovation and ambition, it's hard to match the levels that Google reach, and their new self-driving car project is up there with their most interesting ideas to date. They've already built several cars that drive themselves for their own purposes, using an existing model of car, but yesterday in California they unveiled a prototype to the public of one that they had made themselves, and what it would look like.

Bar that it has a slight resemblance to a Micra, it's not like any car you've seen before, and that's demonstrated in the video they had to go along with the launch, showing regular people and those who would have difficulty driving normally getting around without a bother.

The benefits of the car, according to Mashable, were extolled by Sergey Brin at the Code Conference, where he noted that without a steering wheel or pedals, the car has sensors in much more strategic places than would be possible in a normal vehicle, making it safer. With a top speed of just 25mph however, these aren't headed on to the M50 just yet, as Brin added that they need to be made faster and will only be available a few years down the line once they have proven that they can be safer than a human driver at higher speeds.
