When Jake Gyllenhaal played Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler, he committed to the role and lost weight so that he would appear underweight, slim and slightly on edge. After that, he moved on to a new role as boxer Billy Hope in the upcoming movie Southpaw, which required him to look the complete opposite of that.

In order to transform himself from the skinny Bloom in to the champion boxer Hope, there was only one way to do it: incredibly hard work. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Gyllenhaal explained that he wnet from losing 30 pounds to appear in Nightcrawler, to needing to gain 15 pounds of muscle and look like a real boxer, and that director Antoine Fuqua told him that he couldn't fake it.

Together, they both committed to the tough training and diet regime which meant that they were in the gym twice a day, every day, but in the end Gyllenhaal complete an amazing transformation.
